SOG Specialties 0356 Original Bowie: The Blade That Redefined Tactical Knives
Born from Covert Operations
In the early 1980s, Spencer Frazer stood before a display of Vietnam War-era MACV-CISO Special Forces bowie knives. These sterile, unmarked blades had been designed for elite operatives, their brutal efficiency hidden behind an unassuming exterior. Inspired, Frazer set out to bring their legacy back to life.
A Blade with a Mission
Unable to source production in the U.S., Frazer turned to legendary names in the knife world. A.G. Russell connected him with Ichiro Hattori, one of Seki City’s finest craftsmen. The result? The SOG Bowie, a knife that honored its predecessors while setting new standards for combat utility. With its blued SK5 carbon steel blade, stacked leather handle, and stainless steel guard, this knife was more than just a reproduction—it was a modern legend in the making.
Elite Legacy, Unmatched Craftsmanship
First introduced in Soldier of Fortune magazine in 1987, the SOG Bowie became an instant collector’s piece. Only 1,500 were numbered, with early models finding their way into the hands of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Al Mar, and Sylvester Stallone. Each carried the DNA of the original MACV-CISO knives, crafted in one of the very factories that produced those historic blades.
